FAQs

1. Are you currently taking on new projects?

I take on a small number of freelance and consulting engagements alongside my full-time work. Availability varies by quarter, so the best way to find out is to send a project inquiry — I'll respond within a few days with whether it's a fit and when I could start.

2. What kinds of projects do you work on

Most of my work falls into one of four buckets: brand identity systems, digital product and platform design, packaging, and environmental design. I also take on creative direction engagements where the scope spans multiple disciplines. The common thread is building cohesive systems — whether that's a visual identity, a product, or a physical space — rather than one-off deliverables.

3. Who do you typically work with?

I work with three kinds of organizations: early-stage startups defining their brand and product for the first time, growth-stage tech companies that need to scale their design systems, and established companies launching something new or rethinking how they show up. I've worked across tech, proptech, retail and lifestyle, media, aerospace, beauty and wellness, and climate.

4. Do you work remotely or only with San Diego clients?

Both. I'm based in San Diego and enjoy in-person collaboration when it makes sense, but most of my work is remote with clients across the U.S. and internationally. For larger engagements, I'm happy to fly out for kickoffs, workshops, or key milestones.

5. What does a typical engagement look like?

Most projects start with a short discovery conversation to understand the scope, timeline, and outcomes you're after. From there, I'll send a written proposal with phases, deliverables, and investment. Engagements range from focused 4–6 week sprints (a logo system, a product redesign) to multi-month strategic partnerships where I'm embedded with a team. I work in clearly scoped phases so we always know where we are.

6. How long does a brand or product project take?

It depends on scope, but rough ranges: a focused brand identity system is typically 6–10 weeks. A full brand-plus-product engagement is 3–6 months. Larger system-level work or environmental design can extend further. I'll give you a realistic timeline in the proposal — I'd rather quote longer and deliver well than rush and cut corners.

7. What's the investment for a project?

Project investment depends on scope, complexity, and timeline. To give a sense of range: smaller focused engagements typically start in the low five figures. Comprehensive brand systems, product design, or multi-phase work scale from there. After our initial conversation, I'll send a detailed proposal with line-item pricing — no surprises, no hourly billing.

8. Can you work with our internal design team?

Yes — a meaningful portion of my work is collaborative with in-house teams. I've embedded with product, marketing, and brand teams as a creative director, design lead, or specialist contributor depending on what's needed. If you have an existing team and want extra firepower or outside perspective, that's often the most effective way to work.
